WHAT I DON'T DO
SENSITIVITY EDIT/READ
This involves reviewing your work for implicit bias, inclusivity, harmful stereotypes, tropes, or clichés, etc., usually of a historically marginalized or underrepresented group. A sensitivity read is done by someone within that community.
WHEN IT HAPPENS
Between a content and substantive edit.
TECHNICAL EDIT
Most common in manuals, textbooks, or technical non-fiction, this edit reviews for technical, factual, or scientific accuracy.
While a copy/line edit will include a basic fact check for realism and plausibility, I won't dive deep into the mechanics. For example, if you're writing hard sci-fi, I'll be checking that the internal logic of space travel in your world holds together. I won't be running the equations to make sure it'd work in our world.
